In preparing for today’s newsletter, I came across the image below on facebook. In seeing it my heart burst open . . . with love, with gratitude, and with a sincere vision of peace, love, and healing for all.
I really don’t its original source, but it was shared by Athena Perrakis (Sage Goddess), and given this weeks events in Baltimore, I am making some assumptions about where and when this photo was taken. For me, this image spoke to many things, one being the power of smudging.
Smudging is the sacred practice of using the smoke from a dried sacred plant such as sage, palo santo wood, sweet grass, etc. to energetically wash away or cleanse a person, space, or gathering. It can be used on a daily basis as a part of a daily ritual, used to celebrate and honor gatherings, or as seen in this image to lift the energetic heaviness of that comes with emotions such as anger, resentment, fear, frustration, rage, mistrust, and separation.
When I see this image, I see a call for peace. I feel an invitation for Divine support and guidance. I feel a welcoming of unity and understanding. I feel a sense of deep love and true power.
In this weeks video, I share with you a bit of a ‘how-to’ and ‘why-to’ smudge. I invite you to give it a try, and as you do, I invite you to send your prayers of love and unity on the wafting smoke to not only those in Baltimore experiencing the recent riots, but to all in your life who have been experiencing a riotous inner conflict. Wash them with love and clarity.
